New Explosive Allegations Against A-Rod

Sep 20, 2014 10:53 AM

Tidbits from Selena Roberts' book on Alex Rodriguez are beginning to emerge and the allegations do not bode well for the former MVP. According to the New York Daily News, the book claims that Rodriguez may have begun using steroids in high school and also while with the Yankees. While admitting steroid use, Rodriguez confessed that his only experience using PEDs was during his tenure with the Rangers. While with the Yankees in 2005, Rodriguez was nicknamed "B---h T--s" by his teammates when he gained 15 pounds in the offseason and developed round pectoral muscles, according to Roberts. Rodriguez also allegedly tipped pitches to friends from other teams during lopsided games, with the expectation that the same would be done in return in order to boost numbers.

Ozzie Guillen Wants To Coach An NHL Game

Nov 1, 2014 3:22 PM

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has become a fan of the Blackhawks and told the Chicago Sun-Times that he wouldn't mind coaching an NHL game. "I'd like to coach one of those games," Guillen said. "You know why? In baseball, they don't let the coach do whatever he wants to do. In hockey, if you want to fight, let's go fight. You get a two-minute penalty. In baseball, you get a 10-day suspension."

Cubs Bench Last Year's Rookie Of Year

Nov 1, 2014 3:22 PM

The Cubs benched reigning National League Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto earlier this week. Soto, the team's catcher, has been slumping to begin the season and is hitting just .119. "All I can say is I'm here ready for whenever he needs me," said Soto, speaking of Chicago manager Lou Piniella. The manager said that he's trying to give Soto a mental break. "I don't think it has anything to do with the sophomore slump," Piniella said, "but sometimes with a young player, rather than battling it out, you get him out of there to relax, give him a little time to get himself together." Soto was hoping to return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Leyland Shocked After New York's 10-Run Inning

Oct 11, 2014 9:29 AM

Tigers manager Jim Leyland was shocked after the Yankees scored ten runs in the seventh inning of what was a scoreless game on Tuesday night. "I've never seen anything like that in my life," Leyland, 64, said. "You are 0-0 through six, and then it is 10-0? That's not something I ever remember." No team had broken up a scoreless tie after the sixth with a 10-run inning since the Cincinnati Reds scored 10 in the top of the 13th against the Brooklyn Dodgers on May 15, 1919, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Yankees sent 14 batters to the plate against three pitchers in the 56-pitch, 40-minute inning.

Oliver Perez Pitching For Spot In Rotation

Jun 13, 2014 3:44 PM

Mets manager Jerry Manuel says that Oliver Perez will start on Saturday against the Phillies, his last shot to remain in the team's starting rotation. "I think it's important, him being one of my guys, that I give him every benefit of the doubt," Manuel said. New York signed Perez to a three-year deal worth $36 million this winter, but he is 1-2 with a 9.31 ERA in four starts this season. "I am looking at Philadelphia as a big outing for him. I'm hoping to find something," Manuel said.

A-Rod Starts Sliding, Return Inches Closer

Oct 11, 2014 8:04 AM

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has added sliding to his rehabilitation program, inching him ever closer to his return to the team's lineup. "He had a good day," manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday. "That's a good sign, so we'll wait and see how he feels tomorrow." A-Rod slid five times and took 15 at-bats in live batting practice in Tampa, marking two firsts since he began baseball workouts two weeks ago. May 15 is the official date that the Yankees have listed for his return following hip surgery, but May 8 is looking realistic as well. "Alex understands that we need to have him back as close to 100% as possible where he can play every day," Girardi said. "We've reminded him, 'Don't rush, don't rush,' and I think he understands that. He doesn't want to go on the DL again, have a setback and miss another three weeks instead of taking an extra two or three days."

Hanrahan Out As Nationals' Closer

Oct 14, 2014 11:47 PM

The Nationals have decided that Joel Hanrahan will no longer be their closer. Washington will go with the bullpen-by-committee approach, with pitchers Julian Tavarez and Kip Wells as late-inning options. The team's bullpen blew a four-run lead against the Phillies on Monday night. Philadelphia prevailed 13-11. "I hope I don't wear out this word, but, again, it was deflating," manager Manny Acta said. "Our offense just battled all day and scored enough runs. We played so hard for eight innings to score enough runs. You lose the game in one inning, it's just tough for the whole team."
